The Best of 2016 so far…

The Best of 2016 so far…

Here at TASTED 100% Blind, we have been pretty busy these last few months. Andreas has gotten the pleasure to taste and score a few hundreds of wines. And this is just the start of the busy season. We are in the midst of ProWein today, en primeur is just around the corner, the Southern Hemisphere is in the middle of harvest and this Friday is Andreas’s Larsson’s birthday. Below you will find some of the highest ranking wines in the last two months. They are a perfect way to celebrate Andreas, cause like a fine wine, some things only get better with age.

DOMAINE BOUCHARD PERE & FILS 2014
France – Burgundy – Chevalier Montrachet – White
96 Points
“On the mid-palate, the fruit is emerging, ripe pear with those stone fruity notes. Finely toasted oak and a tremendously long finish. Beautiful purity and minerality on the finish, good extract, perfectly integrated wood. Bloody delicious.”

CHATEAU MONTROSE 2012
France – Bordeaux – Saint Estèphe – 2eme Grand Cru Classe – Red
95 Points
“Layers of inky dark fruit. Great purity with fine and spicy blackcurrant flavor. Some notes of bitter chocolate. Excellent density and vibrant acidity as well. Good integration of oak and a very long finish. Quite massive today, I would say, but it is mostly the fruitiness which has this density and weight.”

FRANCESCO RINALDI & FIGLI – CANNUBI 2011
Italy – Piedmont – Barolo – Red
95 Points
“Quite layered with a lot of things going on. Yeah, lots of spiciness and elegant sweet fruit. Really leaving your palate salivating. Good mouth-watering sensation. A wine that is young, but I would say it is already approaching complexity. So multi-layered and obviously a wine with a great potential for the cellar.”

CHATEAU MONCONTOUR – NECTAR DE MONCONTOUR 2005
France – Loire Valley – Vouvray – White
95 Points
“Bloody lushes on the palate, almost with a creamy texture. Layers of honey, yellow fruit, almond and nuts, a bit more of spiciness that has emerged. I think it has some age. I think there is almost a hint of white truffle, both aromatically and on the taste. Tremendous, very hard to resist.”

DOMAINE RENE CACHEUX ET FILS 2013
France – Burgundy – Vosne Romanee – 1er Cru Les Suchots – Red
94 Points
“Very silky, very delicate. It is a youthful wine but there is still a sexiness here. I love the fine spiciness of white pepper, clove, ginger. With ripe wild berries. Very fine oak treatment, already polished and round and smooth. Long lingering finish. With really delicate fruit. I cannot do anything other than say, this is bloody good.”

WEINBAU MICHAEL WENZEL – RUSTER AUSBRUCH SAZ 2007
Austria – Burgenland – Sweet
94 Points
“What I like about this style of wine, while it is obviously shedding some of that sweetness, as it ages and gaining more complexity and spiciness. Quite impressive and youthful wine with a fair deal complexity. Fine balance to enjoy today, but I would prefer to keep it for longer to see what happens.”

DOMAINE DE ROMBEAU – VIEUX MILLÉSIMES 1956
France – Languedoc/Roussillon – Rivesaltes – Sweet
94 Points
“There is an excellent freshness, giving a lift to that intense sweetness. So it doesn’t really feel faded or tired in any way. There is just a marvellous complexity, with nutty notes, all that dried fruit like prune, fig, dates. A lot of spiciness going on and a tremendously long finish. Obviously a very complex wine with a lot of age. That is bloody good. Could you get me a cigar?”
