Summer Whites – August 3rd

August is officially here, and with it a majority of France takes off to soak up the rest of summer, included the TASTED 100% BLIND office. We wrapped up our blind tasting of over 200 wines last week, and are looking forward to releasing the new videos and ratings to you. In the meantime enjoy the following wines that capture summer in a glass. They are the perfect pairing to sipping by a cool pool or blue ocean.

Bellenda – Miraval 2014
Italy  – Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore
86 Points
“Nice creamy texture here, rather light-bodied with a slight hint of sweetness, but very generous with that grapey sensation, that notion of freshly crushed grapes, some notes of green apple, citrus. Medium-long, quite light creamy finish. Pleasurable and well-made for this style.”

Domaine de Baron’Arques – Le Chardonnay 2013
France – Languedoc/Roussillon – Limoux – White
87 Points
“Quite salivating, I would call it a gastronomic style, I would prefer to have this with something decent on the plate. Still youthful, it’s a style that I’d prefer in its youth, attractive and fresh from rather southerly latitudes.”

Gerard Bertrand – Château La Sauvageonne 2014
France – Languedoc/Roussillon – Coteaux du Languedoc – Rosé
87 Points
“Good grip, with a nice fresh acidity, and it keeps lingering for quite a good while, so it’s more than medium in terms of length; quite persistent on the palate, good freshness on the finish, classically bone-dry with a good bite. A very gastronomic style of rosé wine.”

Maison Saint Aix 2014
France – Provence – Coteaux d’Aix en Provence – rosé
86 Points
“Juicy ripe acidity gives a rather mouthwatering impression on the palate. It finishes classically bone-dry. Medium weight towards long finish, it’s still quite persistent on the palate with that juicy red fruit and citrus notes. Good.”

Siddùra – Maia 2014
Italy – Sardinia – Vermentino di Gallura Superiore – White
85 Points
“Light on the palate but still it has a good level of freshness, it’s pretty mouthwatering in terms of acidity, classically dry with that slightly citrus-infused green apple and pear. No oak in this one. On the finish I get some nutty notes like fresh almond with those herbal notes”

Chamlija – Blanc De Noirs 2014
Turkey – Thrace – white
87 Points
A beautiful representation of a Chablis Grand Cru and the distinct terroir. This wine will only gain elegance with time. The craftsmanship is evident as it is made in a pure and precise style.

Hammel – La Dîme – Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Switzerland – Geneva – white
87 Points
“Good bite on the palate; crisp acidity, yet balanced by that rather opulent fruit, rich and generous with tropical fruit and a quite almost creamy texture, despite that fresh acidity that gives a lift.”
