Outdoor Grilling

Nothing says summer like eating outside and enjoying the long days. In August, the markets are overflowing with fresh produce and potential for grilling and barbeques. Here in France, tomatoes are beginning to take over and creating a colorful rainbow next to bright greens. For your next outdoor summer meal, here are some great wines to accompany a good crowd and food.

Dúzsi Tamás Winery – Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2014
Hungary – Szekszard
84 Points
“Fresh nose, youthful, quite intense, very fruit-driven; some floral components and a lot of red berry fruit. There’s a slight sweetness on the palate, but that’s backed up by vibrant and fresh acidity.”

La Raia – Pisé 2012
Italy – Piedmont – Gavi
85 Points
“Fresh nose, quite intense, aromatic style without oak; there’snotes of fresh butter, lemon zest, almond. Vibrant and fresh palate, with those lemony notes coming back. A rather light style, lightweight but youthful and fresh, with an intense citrusy acidity, medium-long finish.”

Henri Badoux – Lettres De Noblesse 2013
Switzerland – Yvorne – Chasselas
88 Points
“Nice grip on the palate, medium weight, bone-dry. Very gentle touch of oak in the background, for something nutty, almondy, which gives a good grip on the palate; and something I would call balanced bitterness, that gives a lift.”

Château Pas Du Cerf – Mar Lise 2010
France- Côtes de Provence
91 Points
“Very dark and inky, fine oak, dark fruit aromas, cassis, black plum, leather and a very dense palate with massive dark fruit, yet without hard edges, nice spicy notes of liquorices and mint, firm but ripe tannin contribute to a very long and bright finish, still youthful and tight but excellent material for ageing.”

Torres – Grans Muralles 2010
Spain – Catalunya – Conca de Barbera
93 Points
“Very nice purity on the nose, high ripeness here with a lot of inky dark berries like cassis, blackberry, plum; but at the same time there’s a very clear notion of minerality, like wet stone.”

Baglio Di Pianetto – Salici 2010
Italy – Sicily – Sicilia
87 Points
“On the palate it’s quite rounded here in terms of texture, we still get a slight tannic presence on the finish but it’s showing quite juicy bitter red cherry fruit. Good freshness, and a quite rounded supple texture with a certain spiciness going on, on the finish”

Hammel – La Dîme – Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Switzerland – Geneva – white
87 Points
“Good bite on the palate; crisp acidity, yet balanced by that rather opulent fruit, rich and generous with tropical fruit and a quite almost creamy texture, despite that fresh acidity that gives a lift.”
