This week we are conducting tastings of over 200 wines from around the world. As fun as it sounds it is no easy task. It takes a lot of talent and training. Each time we are amazed by Andreas Larsson’s talent, ability and good humour throughout the week. It is a tough job, but some has to do it. To see behind the scenes and to keep tabs on what we are up to, be sure to check our Facebook or Twitter. This week before more wines get added to the mix, enjoy the highest rated white wines so far.
PATRICIUS TOKAJ – 6 PUTTONYOS ASZÚ 2006
Hungary – Tokaj – Furmint – Hárslevelű - Sweet
Andreas’ notes could not say it better. “I absolutely adore this! I think this is a remarkably structured wine, combining that unctuousness, very high sweetness, but well underlined by this invigorating freshness and that beautiful wealth of yellow fruit, stone fruit, apricot and honey, there’s some notes of saffron, and a very very long intense finish. This is something I think you need to love. Beautiful.”
PROVINS – MAÎTRE DE CHAIS 2005
Switzerland – Valais – Marsanne – white
This wine might deceive you to believe it will be sweet as it is on the nose, but it is actually a bone dry wine. An interesting blend of Marsanne Blanche (Ermitage) and Pinot Gris (Malvoisie). In Andreas’ words, “It’s a bloody great wine, with a great complexity, and it can complete with the great wines of the world. Beautiful.”
DOMAINE WILLIAM FEVRE – BOUGROS 2012
France – Burgundy – Chablis – Grand Cru – White
A beautiful representation of a Chablis Grand Cru and the distinct terroir. This wine will only gain elegance with time. The craftsmanship is evident as it is made in a pure and precise style.
DOMAINE DU MONT D’OR – SOUS L’ESCALIER 2012
Switzerland – Valais – Petite Arvine – white
This wine is translated to under the stars, perhaps as it is a perfect accompaniment to star gazing and relaxing after a great meal. “Beautiful nose, very intense and perfumed, with layers of tropical fruit, honey, saffron, black tea; a great complexity overall. The palate has an extraordinary richness; there’s a high level of sweetness, however I think it’s perfectly balanced.”
RODARO PAOLO - L’EVOLUTO 2011
Italy – Friuli – Venezia Giulia – Friuli Colli Orientali - White
This Northern Italy wine is excellent. A ripe styled Sauvignon Blanc with a round acidity and finishes dry and fresh. Andreas loved this style of purity, unoaked and attractive aromatic fruit.
TOSTI – CUVÉE GIULIO 1 2008
Italy – Piedmont – Alta Langa – White
“A certain complexity for sure.” This sparkling wine has good amount of yellow fruit notes like apricot, peach, ripe lemon and nutty almonds. A high quality Piedmontese sparkling wine, made with 100% Pinot Noir grapes.
DOMAINE DE PETRA BIANCA – VINTI LEGNA 2014
France – Corsica – Figari – White
This Corsican wine has great potential of aging. The variety is 100 % Vermentinu and gives good acidity, mineral-infused stone fruit with ripe citrus and some floral notes. In Andreas’ words, “Truly fine, with a positive austere mouth-watering finish. Very good.”
