Bodegas Roda – Cirsion 25° Aniversario 2012
Spain – Rioja – Red
Very inky and intense colour. The nose has great purity and intensity displaying layers of ripe. The palate has an amazing concentration but very soft extraction with powdery tannin. Very long and intense, certainly a very finely crafted and polished wine with tremendous power, elegance and weight built for long ageing.
95 Points

Bodegas Muga – Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2009
Spain – Rioja – Red
Dark ruby colour with some development and a lighter rim. The nose offers ripe dark fruit, some violet notes, chocolate. The palate is dense and full, however with a texture starting to soften, nice dark fruit, complex and long on the finish, has good drinkability now but should surely develop very well.
93 Points

Bodegas Montecillo – Seleccion Especial Gran Reserva 2001
Spain – Rioja – Red
Tawny, orange colour. Mature and intense nose showing walnut, leather, dried fruit, prune, spice box and tea leaf. The palate has good grip, still with vital fruit, tobacco, complex spiciness and fresh acidity, long and intense finish, a nicely built classic structure with both complexity, harmony and pleasure. Long and lingering, very good drinkability today.
92 Points

Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta – Hinia 2011
Spain – Rioja – Red
Dark and intense ruby red core, high viscosity. The nose is discreet at first displaying wild berries, some meaty and smoky notes. The palate is nicely layered with fine spices, giving a lift to the dark berry fruit, good oak and fine tannin. Long, fresh and intense finish, an approaching complexity. A wine with both elegance and power, great potential indeed.
92 Points

Marques De Riscal – Gran Reserva 2010
Spain – Rioja – Red
Rather dense ruby core. The nose is mature with a certain complexity with prune, dried berries, leather, aniseed, pepper and some new wood. Structured palate with dense fruit and a rigid backbone, ripe tannin, good freshness, starting to open up showing more complexity and a long spicy finish with meaty and dark fruity notes.
91 Points

Miguel Angel Muro Bujanda y Otros – Muro Reserva 2012
Spain – Rioja – Red
Dark purple core. Rather modern nose. The palate is dense but polished with fine tannin, good weight and flavour intensity, peppery dark fruit and a long intense finish underlined by a fresh acidity. A nice, bold and modern example.
91 Points

Bodegas Patrocinio – Lagrimas De Maria Crianza 2013
Spain – Rioja – Red
Dark bright ruby with a purple hue. Pure and intense nose showing dark fruit like cherry, cassis, plum with some spicy notes of liquorice and aniseed, discreet wood. The palate has good density and weight but soft texture, still young tannin and a bright freshness and a finely spicy finish. Nice modern style drinking well today.
