Best Wine of Rhone Valley

Best Wine of Rhone Valley

“ The Côtes du Rhône is not only a vast region, it´s truly a dynamic world leader where traditional, elegant styles works well next to the modern, young and vibrant wines. Apart from the famous appellations like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras there´s such a wealth of both value for money, and great quality within the generic Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages category. Wines that have what I call a classic French charm and food-friendliness with good drinkability already in their youth but also a fine potential to develop complexity and harmony from further cellaring. ” Andreas Larsson.

This week, TASTED100%BLIND present the Best Rhone Valley wines.

Domaine L’Or de Line – Cuvée Paule Courtil – 2013
France – Rhone Valley – Chateauneuf du Pape – Red
Very intense nose, quite meaty with sweet fruit, some notes of confiture, prune, tobacco and a lot of fine spices. Nicely rounded palate, no hard edges, already quite stable in terms of fruitiness. I love the sweet fruit and the long complex finish. Very nice result in a traditional Southern French style.
90 Points

Pavillon Saint Pierre – Reserve – 2013
France – Rhone Valley – Cotes du Rhone – Red
Medium deep ruby-red colour. Generous nose, with a fine spiciness here. Nice palate. Digest, with medium weight. Juicy fruit. And it offers a sensation of sweetness but it is still a classically dry wine underlined by a good freshness. Rounded and subtle with good drinkability.
86 Points

Réserve De Bonpas – 2013
France – Rhone Valley – Chateauneuf du Pape – Red
Sweet nose of jammed strawberries, red fruit, some cherry, with a mild spiciness. The palate has a nice charm here, with a lot of sweet fruit. Good juiciness and roundness. Underlined by a quite vital freshness. Giving a lift to that sensation of sweet fruit. So it doesn’t really taste jammy but it is rather the nose that gives the sensation of comfiture.
88 Points

Cave De Tain – Gambert De Loche – 2013
France – Rhone Valley – Hermitage – Red
Quite elegant nose here, layered with some mineral notes, a hint of smoke, dark berries, blackberry cassis, and fine spices. Really nice texture, very very persistent. Really nice texture, very very persistent. This is certainly a vin de garde, or a wine to put away, for many years.
92 Points

Maison Bouachon – La Tiare du Pape – 2010
France – Rhone Valley – Chateauneuf du Pape – Red
Developed colour. The nose also has some development here. The palate is broad and bold. With a lot of density here. Still with a youthful gripe in terms of both tannin and acidity. It gives a good lift. Rather long and persistent. Drinking truly well right now and should continue to do so for the coming five to six years.
89 Points

Dauvergne Ranvier – Vin Rare – 2013
France – Rhone Valley – Gigondas – Red
Sweet nose, showing red fruity hints, some chocolate, dark plum, mild spices. It’s a warm and ripe style, elevated alcohol, but it’s marked by this freshness all along. Attractive and juicy, with a fairly long finish, with lush opulent fruit. A nice result.
89 Points

Domaine La Garelle – Réserve – 2009
France – Rhone Valley – Lubéron – Red
Intense nose showing evolution. Good grip on the palate, quite full, with ample fruit. appears like a rich and ripe style from a warm year, but I think this has nice balance without any hints of overripeness, just that juicy sweet fruit. Very generous, with a certain complexity. It’s nice!
